SCIOTOVILLE — Blaine Scott’s transcendence, a junior at Portsmouth East High School (PEHS) in Sciotoville, sets him apart not only on the football and basketball field or classroom but also in character, according to PEHS football coach, James Gifford.

Gifford said Scott is an outstanding student overall and has caught the attention of numerous colleges.

“Blaine came to us in his eighth grade year, but I have coached him since he was freshman. Blaine is going to be a junior, and has actually been offered 25 different scholarships, most of them coming from the ‘Power Five’ conferences, which includes the SEC, the Big 10, the ACC, Pack 12 and the Big 12,” Gifford said. “Blaine is an outstanding kid. He’s an outstanding 4.0 student. He as already taken the ACT during his sophomore year in high school and scored a 23. He takes his academics as seriously as he does his athletics.”

Scott has the journey has not been easy, and the path has been paved by coach Gifford.

“With the recent success it has been through a lot of hard work, both in the classroom, on the field, and in the weight room,” Scott said. “I couldn’t do anything without my coach, coach Gifford pushing me and my teammates. Coach Gifford has really been the guy that has paved the path for me.”

Visiting colleges around the country has been a priority for summer break.

“This summer I will be traveling a lot all around the country to different colleges. Some of the colleges that I’ve already visited are Northwest, Ohio State, Michigan State, Virginia Tech,” Scott said. “So those are just a few that I have already been to0. It is just a lot of hard work and grind and sweat.”

Scott said his parents Tracy Scott and Mike Scott have been very influential and supportive.

“The biggest influences on my life have been my mom and dad. Neither of those two were big football fans growing up, they have really fell in love with the process,” Scott said. “They have taken me everywhere and have given me everything that I have needed to be successful.”

Gifford said Blaine Scott is the epitome of a great student who makes good decisions.

“He is just the definition of a kid who does things right. He is very goal-driven, makes right decisions, and knows what he wants and stays focused on that and that only,” Gifford said. “The guys on the team really like him, and he is very humble. I could go on, and on and would not say enough about his character and his person as a student and as an athlete.”

On the football field Gifford said Scott plays right tackle, but will probably center or guard.

“Blaine is a really special kid, and it is going to be fun to watch the process, no matter where he goes and no matter what he does he is going to be successful,” Gifford said.
