Minford camp begins Wednesday

The Minford boys and girls basketball teams will be holding a three-day camp beginning Wednesday, June 8 and concluding Friday, June 10.

The camp is open to any boy or girl who will be entering the third grade up to those entering the sixth grade for the upcoming school year. Any boy or girl within that grade range is welcome to attend camp regardless of what local community they call home.

Price for the camp is $30 per participant and $50 for those families with two children wishing to attend.

The camp will take place at the Minford High School gymnasium each day from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Minford girls basketball coach Scott Caudill and boys basketball coach Josh Shoemaker will be running this year’s camp.

The duo both played for Minford in high school and attended John Strickland’s camps.

“We both grew up together and attended Strickland’s camps when we were younger,” Caudill said. “This is just a continuation of a great tradition in Minford and will be a great way for the kids to disconnect from their electronics during their summer break.”

Caudill and Shoemaker are both excited to get to work with the youth in the area, as they try to improve their game and build a love for basketball in the process.

All skill levels are welcome to participate as well.

The camp will teach those attending various skills and will leave them with techniques they can then take home to further improve their skills and talents.

“We just want to help them get better and give them the tools they need to get better and then take that home to practice,” Caudill said. “We want to work with them to improve their development, while at the same time building a love of the game and showing the importance of a good work ethic.”

Joining Caudill and Shoemaker, members of the girls and boys basketball teams at Minford will be helping the participants.

Registration can be completed just before camp begins and those unable to attend all three days are still encouraged to attend.
