South Webster blanks Oak Hill, 4-0

OAK HILL – The South Webster Jeeps got another win early Friday evening. As the Jeeps made the journey to Oak Hill, Ohio, they were hoping for a win over their SOC II foe, which is exactly what they got.

South Webster earned a big road win, defeating the Oak Hill Oaks 4-0, taking the first meeting between the two schools in the still young 2016 baseball season.

An excellent pitching performance by junior Bradley Gee helped propel the Jeeps to their win. Gee went six and one-third innings Friday against the Oaks, allowing only one hit, with three walks. He didn’t allow any runs to score. He showed his dominance over the Oaks as well, as he struck out 11 batters during the contest.

“Brad was in control on the mound tonight,” South Webster Baseball coach Ryan McClintic said. “When you pitch six plus innings and only allow one hit, you’ve definitely got the job done. We got him two runs in the top of the first and that’s all he would need. It was just a superb performance.”

South Webster senior Garrett Rawlins came in as relief for Gee in the seventh inning. He pitched the final two-thirds on the seventh inning to get the save, and secure the Jeeps victory.

“In a cold and rainy game, Garrett was called upon to record the final two outs for us and he did a terrific job,” McClintic said.

On offense, Nathan Wolfenbarker led the way for the South Webster win. He went 3-4 from the plate, with a pair of doubles, and knocked in two runs.

“Nate was great at the plate tonight, driving in the first run of the game and another big insurance run in the top of the seventh,” McClintic said.

McClintic’s squad will go for the regular season sweep of the Oaks on Manday evening, as they host Oak Hill. First pitch has been scheduled for 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
