FRANKLIN FURNACE – The South Webster Lady Jeeps defeated the Green Bobcats Thursday evening by a score of 11-2. The game was marked by solid base running and strong performances at the plate, as the Jeeps walked six times and stole five bases.

Green managed to tie the game up in the bottom of the first, but couldn’t maintain their early success throughout the game. They would score once more in the sixth. Adrian Hall was a bright spot for the bobcats as she reached base each of her four at-bats.

“We had several hits tonight but we seemed to not be able to get them consecutively,” said Bobcat Head Coach Abbey Barrett. “That’s something we are really working on, stringing together some offensive momentum. Adrian was big for us though, she reached base every time she went up to the plate.”

Freshman pitcher Haley Bradley struggled a bit in one of the early games of the season. She had promising moments though, as she struck out four Jeep batters and went two for four at the plate.

“She’s young,” admitted Barrett. “She’s trying to get a rhythm and a feel for the game. It will come in time. I have high hopes for Haley, she came out of the third inning well, and kept them scoreless for the next three.”

The Jeeps celebrate their first win of the season. Jeeps Head Coach Erin Howe was pleased with her team’s performance.

“We focus on the base paths in practice,” said Howe. “We know our hitting isn’t super strong so we have to capitalize when we get on base. To expand our offensive abilities we are really looking to move and steal. I just really think we played well as a team. All the girls did a great job, but we have a lot to learn. They are a great group and I couldn’t ask for anything else out of them.

Jeeps pitcher Breanna Salzbrun gave up eight hits while striking out six batters. She seemed to always locate her pitches down and in, which resulted in a lot of ground ball outs for South Webster.

“Salzbrun has really improved as the weeks have went on,” Howe said. “Even as we played Wheelersburg yesterday she only allowed 10 earned runs which is really respectable against them. She’s been mentally tough for sure.”

South Webster hosts Wheelersburg Friday, and then will Host the Minford Falcons on Monday, April 4th. Green hosts Symmes Valley Friday and will travel to Berea to take on the Titans Saturday.
