The Clay Lady Panthers stopped a two game losing streak, and got an all important conference win Wednesday evening. As the Panthers played host to the Eastern Lady Eagles on the softball diamond, opening up conference play for the two SOC I foes.
After both teams started the game scoring in the first inning, Clay was able to continually add to their opening inning total to defeat the Eagles, 14-5, and claim their first conference victory of the year.
A pair a freshmen, Hannah Oliver and Jensen Warnock helped lead the Lady Panthers to victory Wednesday evening.
Oliver hurled her way to gaining her second win of the season, as she pitched four innings, surrendered two walks, and struck out five batters.
She also came to aide her own cause, going 1-4 from the plate, and scoring a run.
Warnock showed batting prowess, going an impressive 4-5 from the plate. She knocked in three runs and also scored twice.
Clay’s Tressa Carter and Bre Donahoe supplied a display of power, as both teammates sent Eastern pitches over the fence for homeruns.
Carter went 2-4, with four RBIs, and a pair of scores, while Donahoe brought in three runs, going 1-4 from the plate.
Cassidy Wells was a perfect 4-4 Wednesday evening. She drove in one run, scored once, and had two doubles.
The lady Panthers finished the night with 20 hits, doubling the Eagles, who finished with 10.
Eastern and Clay will face each other again on Friday, at Eastern. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
