Clay drops one on the road, 54-47

The Clay Lady Panthers suffered a road loss Thursday night to the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings. The two SOC I foes battled it out at Symmes Valley High School to end their regular season play.

Hot off a great first quarter start, Symmes Valley took a big lead over Clay and then overcame a single point deficit to start the fourth quarter, and defeat the Lady Panthers 54-47.

Symmes Valley was led by three players reaching double figures.

Kaitlyn Payne led the Lady Vikings with 17 points. Payne had a stellar fourth quarter to help boost Symmes Valley to the win, as she scored 13 points in the period, including two of her three three-pointers.

Breanna Brumfield and Jensy Shepherd each scored 13 points against the Lady Panthers. Both players had great showings in the first quarter, as duo scored nine points each in the period.

Clay was once again led by Jensen Warnock. The talented underclassman put up 20 points on the scoreboard for the Lady Panthers. She also grabbed a total of 17 rebounds, earning her a double-double in the process.

Warnock swiped three steals from the Lady Vikings, and also dished out four assists in the loss.

Cameron Delotell had a solid outing for Scott Cayton’s squad. She added 16 points to the Clay cause, hitting three three-pointers, and hit three of her four free throw attempts.

Symmes Valley will next play at the sectional tournament on Thursday evening, as they go up against Southern at Meigs High School. Game time is set for around 8:00 p.m.

The Lady Panthers will face off against Whiteoak on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. in the sectional tournament. The winner of that game will go on to face the number two seeded Notre Dame Lady Titans on Saturday at Northwest High School.
