Western tops Clay, 65-55

The Clay Lady Panthers tried to make it two for two against the Western Lady Indians on Thursday night at Clay High School. When the Lady Panthers and Lady Indians met last time, Clay came out on top at Western High School. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, they were unable to sweep Western, as they lost to the Lady Indians at home.

While the Lady Panthers put up a fight against the Lady Indians, they ultimately fell by 10 points to Western, 65-55.

Clay and Western were nose-to-nose at the end of the first quarter. With both teams tied at 8-8, the game started off in a stalemate, however, the second quarter would prove to be a determining factor for the Western win.

The Lady Indians went on a scoring spree in the second quarter, putting up 23 points in eight minutes of play. Western had eight different players score in the quarter.

To the dismay of the Lady Panthers, Clay was held to only 13 points in the quarter, which gave the Lady Indians a 31-21 lead going into halftime.

Each team would score 34 points in the second half. Western finished the game with a 15-point third quarter, and a 19-point fourth, while Clay had an 18-point third, and a 16-point fourth.

Western’s 10-point gain in the second quarter ultimately determined the outcome of the game.

The Lady Indians had three players reach double figures Thursday night, CC Shanks, Erin Brewster, and Kylie Tong. Shanks led Western with 23 points, while Brewster followed up with 11 points, and Tong with 10 points.

Scott Cayton’s Lady Panthers had a trio of 13-point scorers against the Lady Indians. Jensen Warnock, Regan Osborn, and Cam Delotell all finished the night with 13 points against the Lady Indians.

Warnock earned another double-double with her performance against Western. Along with her 13 points, Warnock pulled down 21 total rebounds.

Up next for the Lady Panthers will be a road trip to McDermott to take on the Northwest Mohawks. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Monday night.

Western will travel to North Adams on Monday evening, with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
