The Waverly Lady Tigers ended their week with at big win over the Valley Lady Indians Thursday night, at Waverly High School. In what was a very close game until the second half, the Lady Tigers pulled away from the Lady Indians, gaining a 20-point lead, 62-42, by the final buzzer.

“We were able to get better defensive pressure in the second half, and generate stops and turnovers,” Waverly head coach John Bonifield said. “This gave us energy, and allowed us to get into more of a rhythm offensively.”

That offensive rhythm spelled doom for the Lady Indians Thursday evening, as Waverly had its two best scoring quarters in the second half.

After scoring 13 and nine points respectively in the firs half, Waverly’s offense peaked at just the right time. They put 22 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter, and then another 18 in the fourth.

Laken Smith led the Lady Tigers in scoring on the night, finishing with 16 points. She had a great night from the free throw line, hitting eight of her 10 attempts. She also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out seven assists, and snagged a pair of steals.

Brittany Green earned a double-double with her performance against Valley. She scored 15 points in the contest, while getting 10 total rebounds. She also shared the wealth with her teammates Thursday, handing out three assists.

Kilee Perdue assisted in the Lady Tigers’ victory, adding 12 points for Waverly.

The Lady Indians had a pair of players finish the night with double figures.

Hannah Conley led Valley with 13 points in the loss to Waverly, while Kamryn Conaway added 12 points to the Valley cause.

Up next for the Waverly Lady Tigers will be the Wheelersburg Lady Pirates on Thursday evening at Wheelersburg High School. Tipoff is scheduled for about 7:30 p.m.

Valley will face another tough opponent on Monday evening, as they travel to South Webster to take on the Lady Jeeps. Tipoff is set for around 7:30 p.m.
