The public is invited to a symposium on Alzheimer’s and Dementia Thursday (Aug. 4), at BridgePort Healthcare Center, 2125 Royce St., Portsmouth.
A panel of experts will gather at BridgePort Healthcare Center to talk about the latest trends in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the panel discussion taking place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Teresa Bryan, MSW, LISW-S, Director of Social Work/Patient Relations/UR for Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) will moderate the panel. Panelists will include: Dr. Jeffry Hill, DO, Medical Director for BridgePort and Southern Ohio Medical Center, Dr. Marsha Smith, MD with Southern Ohio Medical Center Neurology Associates, Melissa Dever, BSW, LSW, Branch Program Manager for the Alzheimer’s Association in Southeastern Ohio, and Ann Evans, MSN, RN, Program Director for the Southern Ohio Medical Center Senior Behavior Unit.
The event is free and food and drinks will be served. There will be a meet and greet, and tours of the facility to follow the panel discussion.
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the national Alzheimer’s Association. The Association says nearly every minute, someone in the United States develops the disease.
