The Scioto County Retired Teachers Association awarded two scholarships of $750 each to Ali Hammond, 2016 Minford High School graduate and valedictorian, and Drew Williams, 2016 Portsmouth High School graduate. Ali is the daughter of Shantel Hammond of Minford and will attend Shawnee State University in Portsmouth to pursue a degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. Drew is the son of Trent Williams of Portsmouth, OH and Alisa Davenport of Franklin Furnace. Drew will attend Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. majoring in music education with an emphasis in percussion.

This year’s scholarships were presented in memory of Norna Prior, an educator with 42 years of service in the Bloom Vernon School District in South Webster as well as longtime member and scholarship chairperson of SCRTA. She passed away in October 2015.
