SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — Sunshine Storage, located at 1842 State Route 7 in South Shore, Ky., opened in 2014, and is not only thriving, expanding. The business will soon branch out into a flea market beginning May 28, and later will offer park and sell space.
Troy Triplett, co-owner of Sunshine Storage, said the flea market will kick off Saturday, May 28 at 7 a.m. until every Saturday at 7 p.m. until participants want to stop for the day.
“We are getting ready to start a flea market. There are a lot of people out there that are flea market addicts, and are looking for items, and want to sell things as well,” Triplett said. “We have 10 plus acres, and we are going to hold this flea market every Saturday through the summer until the fall, as long as the weather permits.
“We have a few people that do flea markets and rent store units from us, they kind of talked about it and gave us the idea that this would be a great place for a flea market.”
Anyone can take part in the flea market, for a small fee of $5.
“You do not have to rent space from us in order to come out and set up for the flea market, the cost then would be $5,” Triplett said. “However, if someone does rent storage space from us, or is already one of our customers, then they do not have to pay the $5 for the flea market. It is going to be here in the front of the building, there is over 10 acres here but we are going to start with the front part, which is 400 feet wide by 200 feet deep, so with the we will be able to set up a bunch of people for the flea market.”
The park and sell concept of the business is in the works, and will soon be available.
“The park and sell we hope to start later in the summer also here on the same property,” he said. “For instance, if you have a car or truck or some type of vehicle to sell you can bring it here and park it.”
The park and sell will serve as a good, safe way to sell merchandise as opposed to popularized websites, according to Triplett.
“Some people are intimidated by some of the popular websites where you seek to sell something and have to meet up with strangers, and are worried about the outcome,” he said. “So, if you want to sell a car or something of that nature, you can bring it here. We have 24 hour surveillance cameras.”
As it relates to storage space, Sunshine provides storage units from $29 for a five by five unit, up to 19 by 25 unit, which will accommodate two full-sized cars, according to Triplett.
“So we have units of all different sizes. Things are going pretty well. We have all of the outside rooms built out,” he said. “We have done this in three phases, and each time we have filled up. We just put 26 more rooms inside of this inside corridor. We have 100 units altogether right now. We just opened this wing up, and we’ve got three or four rented already. We are really looking forward to these new ventures, and want folks to know that the flea market will be up and going on May 28th at 7 a.m. and just give us a call if want to rent some space and come out and look for items to purchase.”
