GREENUP, Ky. — Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter #1006 is active, operative, and is extending an invitation to new members.
VVA #1006 held an election of officers at their April 2016 meeting, with 21 members present. The newly elected officers are Bob Skaggs president, Bill Cropper, vice president, John Cooper, secretary, and Jerry Entler, treasurer, and board members JB Liles and Philip Large.
VVA #1006 secretary Cooper, said the numbers are dwindling for participation in their organization, something they endeavor to change.
“Vietnam Veterans of America is very important, and we are becoming less and less in number,” Cooper said. “We are kind of like the World War II veterans, and are going down in numbers too, which is one reason that our attendance is kind of low. So, we are always welcoming new members.”
VVA Chapter #1006 is a proud supporter of area Vietnam Veterans and other community projects. The organization was chartered in February of 2008 and presently has 45 life members, 16 regular members, and seven associate members, according to Cooper.
Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty anywhere in the world between Aug. 5, 1964, and May, 1975. All Vietnam Veterans and Associates are welcome to the VVA #1006 meetings which are held at First Christian Church Center on US 23 in South Shore, Ky. on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m.
