The city of Portsmouth’s share of the cost of a resurfacing of U.S. 52 within the city will be $126,318. Portsmouth City Council was expected to give second reading to an ordinance Monday night that would authorize an additional appropriation of $126,318 as approved by ordinance number 9 passed on Feb. 22, 2016. The figure was submitted by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The share of the cost to the city was estimated in the amount of $274,393, less the Ohio Public Works Commission share in the amount of $249,390, leaving a balance of $25,003, with the stipulation – “the said estimated amount was to be adjusted in order that the city of Portsmouth’s ultimate share of said improvement corresponded with said percentages of actual costs when said actual costs were determined.”

Then, City Manager Derek K. Allen received correspondence on April 7, 2016, from Scott Thompson of the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 that the cost for the 100 percent share came in much higher than expected and caused an overage. Based on the low bid the city would owe an additional $126,318, if the the project is to be awarded.

The additional appropriation of the $126,318 would come from CIP Fund 301 for resurfacing of U.S. 52, including curb ramps, lying within the city of Portsmouth.
