Police seek burglary suspect

The Portsmouth Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man in a security photo they believe to have been involved in several residential burglaries in the area around Greenlawn Cemetery.

On Friday, officer Jacob Newman took a Burglary report from a woman who lives in the 1500 block of Robinson Avenue. The victim told Newman she had come home to find her residence had been entered and items had been stolen from her home. The victim said she could not find any forced entry to the residence.

Newman, in canvassing the area for clues, found video security cameras on a nearby residence that he believed may have captured footage that would help in solving the crime. Video images were obtained of a subject that reportedly matched the description of a man who was seen carrying two televisions from the victim’s residence.

Police have investigated several burglaries in the area around Greenlawn Cemetery where the suspects descriptions are very similar and are asking that anyone who believes they know the identity of the subject shown on the video, to contact Newman or the police department at 740-353-4101 or the Police Detective Division at 740-354-1600. All information can be kept confidential.
