Although St. Patrick’s Day is not until Thursday, March 17, the 10th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade marched through downtown Portsmouth on Saturday to cheering crowds that lined the parade route. Members of the 7 Nations Celtic Club organized the event that kicked off on Market (Street) Square, turned left on Second Street, then turned left on Washington Street, then right on Fifth Street all the way to Tracy Park. Several different groups, individuals and organizations participated in the parade. Guy Steele, a Portsmouth resident with five Purple Hearts, was the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade. The event has turned into quite the tradition for the club and the community. Cory Maillet, General Manager of Ports City Pub said, “We do a whole week of celebration.” On March 17, which is St. Patrick’s Day, Ports City Pub will have the Cirque D’ Art Dancers at 5 p.m., The Rose Mountain Ramblers will perform at 6 p.m., and Ian Jones and The Tipperary 3 will perform later that evening. For more information about the 7 Nations Celtic Club, they meet the fourth Thursday of each month at Ports City Pub starting at 6 p.m.
