Two vehicle head-on fatal crash on US 23

A head on vehicle crash claimed the life of both drivers, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The two vehicle fatal crash occurred on US 23, near Rozelle Creek Road, according to investigators.

On Saturday, at 12:12 p.m., the Jackson Dispatch Center received a call about a two vehicle injury crash on US 23, according to the report.

Involved in the crash was a 2007 Chevrolet HHR, driven by Crystal Biller, 37, of Galloway Ohio, which was southbound on US 23, near Rozelle Creek Road. On board in the vehicle with Biller were her two sons, Joseph, 19, and Jacob, 14. The other vehcile was a 1995 Ford Escort driven by Jessica Maynard, 25, of Beaver, Ohio, which was going northbound on US 23.

Maynard’s vehicle crossed the median and struck Biller’s vehicle head on, according to investigators. Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene by the Ross County Coroner, Dr. Gabis.

Joseph Biller and Jacob Biller were flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, by Medflight, investigators said.

Both Huntington and Scioto Township Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with Huntington Township Squad and Portsmouth Ambulance. Haller’s Funeral home also responded to the scene.

Officials said that the road was closed for several hours, with traffic diverted to Massieville Road by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.

• Also, the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Friday evening accident in Wheelersburg, near Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home, that resulted in a 67-year-old female being hit by a motor vehicle.

The call came in around 7:25 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, according to a spokesperson with OSHP.

The woman was identified as Barb Mullins, a Wheelersburg teacher. She was health flighted to Cabell Huntington Hospital with severe injuries, the official said.

No other information has released about the driver of the vehicle or any possible charges. The incident remains under investigation, the official said.
