S.R. 552 traffic changes part of Lake White project

Staff reports

Traffic changes are taking place as part of the Lake White Project in Pike County.

As part of the Lake White Dam rehabilitation project in Pike County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will impart traffic changes this week for state route 552 motorists.

To accommodate for construction equipment and crews where they are working at the Lake White spillway and bridge on S.R. 104, crews from Sunesis Construction Company will change the traffic pattern for S.R. 552 motorists and install temporary pavement and striping, providing for two-way, continuous traffic from S.R. 104 to S.R. 552.

In doing so, the existing access point from S.R. 552 to S.R. 104 will be closed, and southbound S.R. 552 traffic will have a continuous movement from S.R. 104. Northbound S.R. 552 traffic to S.R. 104 will also follow the new traffic pattern, but motorists will have a stop at the junction of the two routes.

The Lake White Dam Rehabilitation and Roadway Improvement Project is a joint effort between the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources to reconstruct the Lake White dam and replace the existing bridge over the spillway on S.R. 104. In addition, the contractors are reconstructing S.R. 104, constructing turn lanes at S.R. 551 and S.R. 552, and improving the intersection of S.R. 104 and C.R. 105 (Forest Hills Road).

Currently, S.R. 104 and S.R. 551 are closed at Lake White, and these closures will remain in effect through the duration of the project. Through traffic is being detoured by way of U.S. 23 and S.R. 32, and local traffic to the Lake White region is being detoured via S.R. 552 and S.R. 220.

ODOT awarded a contract in late July 2015 to Sunesis Construction for approximately $31.7 million, and the project is targeted for completion by late fall 2016.
