A Wheelersburg High School senior has been killed.

Ethan Pauley, 18, of Wheelersburg, was being towed on a sled being pulled by an ATV southbound on Gallia Pike in Wheelersburg, when it approached the intersection, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, when he was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Ashton Miller, 23, also of Wheelersburg, eastbound on Center Street.

“Mr. Miller’s vehicle failed to yield at the traffic light,” Sergeant John Howard of the OSHP said. “and struck the sled and the rider that was being pulled on the ATV.”

Howard said Miller’s vehicle did not stop and continued from the scene. He said later on Miller was taken in for a urine test to determine whether any alcohol or drugs contributed (to the accident).

Several witnesses were interviewed by those investigating the fatality.

According to witness statements, the other vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, fled the scene, and was located a short time later at a nearby residence. Further investigation revealed that the driver was Miller.

Miller was questioned, and submitted to a drug test, but was not taken into custody. Troopers will continue their investigation, and Miller may face charges once the investigation is completed.

The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office Porter Township deputy arrived at the scene shortly after it occurred and the OSHP was contacted and took the lead on the investigation.

“At this time all charges will be referred to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office,” Howard said.
