FLATWOODS, Ky. — The Flatwoods Lion Club (FLC)will usher in the Christmas season in with the Annual Flatwoods Christmas Parade on Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. This year’s theme for the parade is, ‘Visions of Christmas.’

The Flatwoods Christmas Parade will begin on Dec. 3, with line up at noon and parade to kick off at 1 p.m. at General Heating and Air on Argillite Road in Flatwoods, Ky., and will continue down to the Flatwoods City Building.

Sandra Ferrer, secretary of the FLC, said the local community looks forward to the Flatwoods Christmas Parade with great anticipation.

“The Flatwoods Lions Club has been sponsoring this parade for about 20 years. This is our way of giving back to the community,” Ferrer said. “This is also something that the community looks forward to, with participation of the different clubs, and the kids dance teams. The kids are always excited about seeing Santa, who will be there as well.”

The grand marshal of the parade will be Sheila Cook, according Ferrer.

“We always like to feature a person from the community as the grand marshal for the parade, and this year it will be Sheila Cook, owner of Service Office Supply here in Flatwoods. She has done a lot ot serve our community,” she said.

In addition to Santa Claus, there will be appearances by local bands, plenty of treats and candy will be provided which Ferrer said the children always enjoy. Many of the added features of the parade are contingent upon agreeable weather conditions.

“A lot of it depends upon the weather, of course,” she said. “Some even like to come in their antique cars if the weather permits. So, we are just hoping for decent weather. The Flatwoods Club President, Susie Gullett will be handling the announcing in addition to one of our local radio stations, and that always makes it a great deal.”
