Held, Sept. 24, the 3rd Annual River Valley Craft Beer Fest returned to Portsmouth and was greeted with success.

Hosted at the Party Connection, the event continues to grow each year.

“Even with the traffic, we’ve seen more people than we ever have before. Everything has gone so smoothly,” said Party Connection manager, Becky Sosby. “You spend months and months working to get ready for it, working to contact all the breweries to make sure they have someone here to represent them. It’s really just amazing how easy it all comes together.”

Over 20 breweries came to set up, sharing their best sellers and seasonal beers with the community.

“We’ve brought six breweries to represent our distributor,” said Patrick Phillips. Phillips works for Heidelburg Distributing out of Columbus and has participated in the Craft Beer Fest all three years. “It helps bring awareness to some of the craft beers that people don’t normally buy. They come here and try samples to see what they like and what they don’t like and then they know when they come into a place like the Party Connection, where there’s 500 craft beers, they’ll know what they’ve tried and liked. They don’t have to invest 10 dollars in a six-pack of beer that they may not even like.”

In addition the to the sampling, live entertainment was provided by the Boosh Hawgs, Holly and the Guy, and the Shane Runion Band.

This was also the first year for the ‘Chug and Run,’ sponsored by PSKC Crossfit, which raised over $1,500 for “Team Some Assembly Required,” a veteran and civilian organization which helps adaptive athletes.

“These are men or women who have lost an arm or leg in combat, or who may have just been born that way,” explained PSKC’s Dale King. “We’re really glad we could help raise some money for the organization, they really do great things to help these people out and achieve their dreams.”

The 20 teams chugged a beer, ran .3 miles, chugged another beer, tagged their partner, where the event began all over again.
