Making his return to the literary scene, Soc Clay released his book “Bassin’ Around Kentucky,” Saturday, April 9.

Clay’s book is the first book written by a Kentucky author completely dedicated to bass fishing in the region.

The book is composed of bass stories, bass lore and bass fishing tips, and is the result of more than 60 years of Clay’s devoted bass fishing experiences.

Clay has fished with hundreds of Kentuckians on lakes, reservoirs, stream and rivers.

Clay says he’s as handy with a casting or spinning rod, as he is a fly-rod and mastered the application of all three methods to seek out bass from top to bottom at all times of the year.

He spent his time working with some of the best regional bass anglers and professionals who have come to fish in Kentucky’s waters.

Ray Scott, the founder of BASS, is a personal friend. Scott says they have shared their skills and knowledge about the bass fishing world and how it applies to both new comers to the sport as well as to seasoned veterans.

Those who read Clay’s book will discover master advice from the masters of bass anglers across Kentucky.

“There’s a story about Billy Phillips, a lady’s shoe salesman, catching bass from six inches of water when water temperatures are reaching toward 90 degrees. They will read about Ricky Craft a Deputy sheriff, who knows how to catch bass in the middle of winter- in shallow water,” said Clay.

But this is just one of the many stories detailed in “Bassin’ Around Kentucky.”

Readers will be introduced to legends like Charley and Ernie Taylor of Somerset, of Billy Westmoreland, Fred Martin, Buddy Banks, Tom Applegate, Freddy Hall Barry Dean Martin, Bob Dillow, Bill Sauer and many more.

Clay says these anglers were chosen because they have created innovative and special ways to catch the bass.

The book also tells history of the Kentucky Reel that was invented in Paris Kentucky and the development of casting and spinning reels from the early 1800s until today.

“Heck, this is a big book, so they will hear about my upbringing and how I learned to fish, a ton of other sound reading,” Clay said.

Clay is currently working on a book about hunting in Kentucky, and hopes to have it published in the fall.

“Bassin’ Around Kentucky” sells for $20, tax and shipping included. Orders can be mailed to 350 Fern Hollow Road, South Shore, Kentucky 41175.

Autograph copies are available. This book will be available at several outlets in Kentucky and can be ordered from Amazon, Kindle and other online outlets.
