The winner of Group D in Copa America, to nobody’s surprise, will come down to the final matchday between Brazil and Colombia on Tuesday. It’s win the match and win the group as Colombia are perfect on six points while Brazil bounced back from a draw with Costa Rica to brush aside Paraguay. It’s important to win the group as the winner will likely avoid Uruguay in the quarterfinals. Vinicius Junior versus Luis Diaz is quite a matchup but this is also a clash that shows the shifting tides of South American soccer. Colombia are unbeaten in their last 25 matches while Brazil have only won two of their last five matches, and winning this group would help show why Los Cafteros are one of the favorites to win the entire tournament.

Here are our storylines, how you can watch the match and more:

Brazil bounced back from their scoreless draw against Costa Rica with a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay in their second Copa America 2024 match. Dorival Junior made two changes to the lineup, including benching Raphinha for Savio, and adjusted his team’s formation to a 4-2-3-1, both of which massively paid off.

The Selecao need to defeat Colombia to stand alone atop Group D; a draw would put them in second place. Therefore, expect Brazil to come out with a lineup at full strength, including Vinicius Jr., who scored his first international brace on Friday.

Brazil predicted lineup vs Colombia
Brazil predicted lineup vs Costa Rica ( 4-2-3-1 ): Alisson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Militao, Wendell; Guimaraes, Gomes; Savio, Paqueta, Vinicius Jr.; Rodrygo

Brazil team news, focus
Vinicius, Militao, Paqueta and Wendell are all on yellow cards and at risk of suspension, so they may drop out of the starting lineup. The likes of Andreas Pereira, Gabriel Magalhaes, Endrick, Raphinha, Douglas Luiz and Gabriel Martinelli could come in. That list just shows the ridiculous strength of this Brazil squad.

Colombia team news, focus
Lerma, Rios and Cordoba are at risk of being suspended for the quarterfinals if they pick up another yellow, while James Rodriguez came off in Colombia’s win against Costa Rica but that was just a precaution. Colombia may rotate a little but they are likely to try and keep their momentum heading into the quarterfinals as they want to seal top spot and avoid Uruguay in the last eight.

There are no injury concerns ahead of the match against Brazil.

Brazil came out flat in their opening match at Copa America 2024, only managing three shots on target against Costa Rica and zero goals. The Selecao looked much better against Paraguay, leaving Las Vegas with three points and four goals, putting them in second place of Group D.

Colombia, meanwhile, are currently on a 25-game unbeaten streak under Nestor Lorenzo, and have outscored their last four opponents 13-2. Los Cafeteros sit comfortably atop the group with six points, and already booked their spot in the quarter-finals. Their last match of the Group Stage provides their biggest challenge yet, though, taking on Vinicius Jr. and co. at Levi’s Stadium.

Here’s 90min’s guide to Brazil vs Colombia on July 2.

Storylines
Brazil: Hoping to see more of the Vini Jr. that carved apart Paraguay and less of the guy who has historically played for Brazil. He stepped up when it mattered but this team needs him to be the guy in every match. Rodrygo struggled to put shots on target which could call for a lineup change from Dorival Junior, but the expectation is for Brazil to keep operating with a similar XI.

Colombia: Despite only playing two matches, Colombia are tied for scoring the third most goals of any team in the tournament and will like their chances against a poor Brazil defense. Ruthless on the counter, Los Cafteros know who they are and what they want to do while James Rodriguez turning back the clock has elevated the team to a different level.

Predicted lineups
Brazil: Alisson, Wendell, Marquinhos, Eder Militao, Danilo, Joao Gomes, Bruno Guimares, Vinicus Junior, Lucas Paqueta, Savio, Rodrygo

Colombia: Camilo Vargas, Daniel Munoz, Davidson Sanchez, Carlos Cuesta, Johan Mojica, Richard Rios, Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias, James Rodriguez, Rafel Santos Borre, Luis Diaz

Brazil and Colombia collide in a tasty Copa America 2024 clash at Levi’s Stadium in the Bay Area with the chance to win Group D on the line.

After a shock draw against Costa Rica in their Group D opener, Brazil got back on track as they thumped Paraguay 4-1 in Las Vegas with Vinicius Jr scoring twice. Brazil’s lineup has a fresh look to it but plenty of familiar names are dazzling with Vini, Rodrygo, Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes all key. Alisson is in goal for the Selecao and they are warming up nicely for the knockout rounds and a win against Colombia means they would top Group D and likely avoid red-hot Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

Speaking of red-hot, Colombia have been excellent so far, winning both of their games and have six points on the board as they’ve already qualified for the quarterfinals. In fact Los Cafeteros are on a 25-game unbeaten run and have won all six games in 2024, as Luis Diaz, James Rodriguez and Jhon Cordoba are looking electric in attack and Colombia’s 5-1 thumping of the USMNT in a friendly before Copa America showed us exactly what they are capable of. A point is enough for Colombia to win the group but they will be looking to underline their status as one of the tournament favorites.

Colombia team news
Now that Colombia qualified for the Copa America 2024 quarter-finals, Nestor Lorenzo could rest some of his traditional starting XI against Brazil. Los Cafeteros, though, will surely want to take all three points from the Selecao and win Group D.

One player that will likely not make an appearance is Jhon Lucumi, who is still battling through a slight leg injury he sustained in Colombia’s opening match against Paraguay. There is no reason to risk the defender before the Knockout Stage.

Brazil vs Colombia score prediction
If recent history is any indication, Brazil and Colombia always match up well against one another, and more often than not, the two sides settle for a draw. It is hard to imagine Colombia’s 25-game unbeaten streak coming to an end against a team that could not score against Costa Rica, but Brazil will not give Colombia three points as easily as their other Group D opponents.

Expect plenty of goalscoring from both prolific attacks, and a few massive saves from Alisson to keep Brazil in the game.

Five-times World Cup champions Brazil and in-form Colombia meet in North California on Tuesday in a highly-anticipated Copa America clash with more than just the Group D lead on the line.

Colombia is arguably the hottest team in the Americas with an impressive streak of 10 consecutive wins and undefeated in its last 25 matches.

Its last defeat was over two years ago, a 1-0 loss to Argentina which effectively ended their 2022 World Cup qualification hopes.

Colombia fired manager Reinaldo Rueda and brought back Nestor Lorenzo, a former Argentine player who worked for several years as Jose Pekerman’s assistant when he was in charge.

Lorenzo injected a new energy to a talented but ageing group, managing to bring out the best version of experienced players like James Rodriguez, Jhon Cordoba and Johan Mojica who most thought were passed their prime.

The rise of Richard Rios, Jhon Arias and Jefferson Lerma gave Colombia the balance it needed, its run including wins over Spain, and Germany and a dramatic fightback against Brazil when winger Luis Diaz scored a late brace to secure a shock win days after Colombian guerrillas freed his kidnapped father.

Playing an attractive style of attacking football with a relentless pace and physicality, Colombia started the Copa America by beating Paraguay and Costa Rica and topped the group with a draw against Brazil.

Beating the five-time world champion would send a statement that South America has a new force to be reckoned with.

“I know our fans are excited and who am I to give advices to people’s emotions. We are also excited, so let’s enjoy it,” Lorenzo said after his team beat Costa Rica 3-0 on Friday.

Brazil is struggling after a heartbreaking penalty defeat by Croatia in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals.

Under the guidance of new manager Dorival Junior, Brazil’s Copa America debut was disappointing, a goalless draw against Costa Rica that was its fifth straight competitive game without a win, its worst run in 23 years.

It bounced back with a 4-1 win over Paraguay thanks to a stellar performance by forward Vinicius Jr., who showed why he is a strong contender to win the Ballon d’Or after guiding Real Madrid to a La Liga-Champions League double.

“Colombia are a stone in our shoe which we’re going to try to get it out of our way in the next game,” Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes told a press conference on Sunday.

“They have a lot of players who can decide things individually, they’re a very physical team, good to play against. This is the Brazilian national team shirt we are talking about.

“It’s going to be a great test for us, a great game that we want to win to finish first (in the group). That’s what is required when you wear Brazil’s shirt.”

Prediction
As Colombia only needs a draw to win the group, they’ll do just enough to contain Brazil while accomplishing that goal as the contenders march on. Pick: Brazil 1, Colombia 1
