Colombia has already secured its spot in the quarterfinal, and even with a loss, so has Brazil (barring an extremely lopsided win for Costa Rica against Paraguay). But that won’t stop Brazil from trying to take the top spot in Group D with a win over Colombia on Tuesday night.
The winner of the game will go on to face Panama, which finished second in Group C, and makes for a more desirable knockout round opponent than the undefeated Uruguay. If Brazil can’t manage a win on Tuesday, they’ll have to contend with the Uruguayan side that beat them 2-0 in World Cup qualifiers back in October.
Vinícius Júnior scored two first-half goals to lead Brazil to a 4-1 victory over Paraguay last time out, and help position the team for a relatively easy ride into the knockout bracket. Sávio also scored a first-half goal for Brazil and Lucas Paquetá made a penalty kick in the back half. Colombia, meanwhile, has gone 2-1 and 3-0 against Paraguay and Costa Rica, respectively.
