The Portland International Raceway, a fixture in American motorsport, is famous for its thrilling close battles, particularly in series like IndyCar. A standout moment came in 1997, with a dramatic three-way finish where Mark Blundell narrowly defeated Gil de Ferran and Raul Boesel by just half a tenth of a second, solidifying the race’s place in history as one of the closest on a road course.

The 3.190km, 12-turn clockwise circuit remains unchanged from last year, featuring the Attack Mode activation zone on the outside of Turn 7. With its high-speed corners and long straights, the track promises plenty of overtaking opportunities, slipstreaming, and crucial energy management, ensuring fans a weekend of high-speed thrills and intense competition.

Stay tuned as we cover every thrilling moment from Race 2 at the 2024 Portland E-Prix, keeping you up-to-date with all the action as we bring you lap-by-lap updates, analysis and expert opinion.

The championship as it stands
Yesterday’s race saw Nick Cassidy miss out on a vital opportunity to try and wrap up the championship battle. Cassidy continues to lead the title charge with 167 points to his name. Pascal Wehrlein remains in second with 143 points, Evans not much further behind with 140 points in the bag.

Antonio Felix da Costa will be hoping to hold off the Jaguar drivers in a bid to keep Porsche in the fight for the Teams’ championship title. Jaguar looks on course to bag the championship though, with 305 points to Porsche’s 252.

Searching for better fortunes
Saturday’s race was nothing short of a nightmare for championship leader Nick Cassidy. The Jaguar driver found himself throwing away the race lead on the penultimate lap, spinning out of contention and dropping himself out of the points.

Cassidy already finds himself in a better position today, having qualified P6 as opposed to yesterday’s P10 grid position.

Cassidy isn’t the only Jaguar driving hoping for a better run of things today. Although the fastest man on track, having taken the chequered flag first, a controversial penalty for Mitch Evans saw the Kiwi drop down to P8.

Yesterday’s podium finishers brought their strong form forwards into Sunday, with Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa going head to head for pole position.

Vergne pipped Saturday’s race winner to the post, the Frenchman taking his seventeenth pole position — the most for any driver in Formula E history.

Robin Frijns, who finished second in Saturday’s race, put in another great performance for Envision, qualifying P4, just behind McLaren’s Sam Bird.
