Munjya OTT Release Date Update: After Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya, moviegoers witnessed the release of horror-comedy Munjya last week. The fourth film from Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, it released on June 7 amid an okayish buzz and has surprised everyone with its smashing performance at the box office.

Featuring Abhay Verma and Sharvari in the lead roles with Mona Singh, Sathyaraj among others in supporting roles, Munjya is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and has been getting favorable response from viewers every since its release. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, the film has turned out to be a surprise success in the first week and is expected to do well in second well as well.

According to the latest reports, Disney Plus Hotstar has acquired the OTT rights for Munjya. Following the trend of recent Bollywood releases such as Maidaan and Laapataa Ladies, the film is expected to debut digitally approximately two months after its theatrical run, likely towards the end of July or early August. However, official confirmation and an exact release date are still awaited.

MUNJYA PLOT OVERVIEW, BOX OFFICE UPDATE
The film centers on the legend of Munjya, a Brahmarakshas, drawing inspiration from Indian folklore and mythology. It introduces Munjya, a CGI character deeply rooted in traditional tales.

Munjya follows the story of a spirit unleashed by a young boy Bittu (Abhay Verma), which then starts to wreak havoc on him and asks him to find his ladly love Munni. The narrative explores Munjya’s obsession with love, offering a unique and original horror storyline. This blend of folklore and romance adds depth to the horror elements, making it a captivating tale.

In the first week, the film did a business of Rs 36.50 crore on the domestic front. Seeing the response, it might cross the Rs 75 crore mark in the coming days.

Starring Sharvari, Abhay Verma, and Mona Singh, and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, this horror comedy is hitting theatres today (June 7) with a decent buzz and expectations.

When To Watch Munjya?
Following the trend of other Bollywood releases like Shaitaan, Laapataa Ladies, and Madgaon Express, Munjya is expected to stream digitally about two months after its theatrical release, likely by the end of July or early August. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, Munjya is the fourth movie in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, following Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya. The film is based on the legend of Munjya, a spirit from Indian folklore. It tells the story of a boy who accidentally releases the spirit, causing chaos among the local women. The community must figure out how to send the spirit back. The trailer shows Munjya tormenting the lead character (played by Abhay Verma) as he searches for his Munni.

Sharvari plays Abhay Verma’s love interest, while Mona Singh plays his mother. The film has a U/A certification from the Central Board and runs for 2 hours and 3 minutes. There is also a cameo by Shraddha Kapoor, which is said to perfectly synchronise the elements of the Stree-Munjya universe and leaves plenty of room for a crossover film.
