MINFORD – Chesapeake running back Drew Plantz churned out 130 yards on the ground on 13 carries with three touchdowns, leading the Panthers to a 42-0 non-conference win over host Minford on Friday night.

The five-foot and eight-inch senior also scored a touchdown on a 14-yard pass from quarterback Jacob Harris in the win for the Ohio Valley Conference members.

“We just didn’t execute,” Minford coach Jordan Michael said. “We talked about it all week and the keys to the game and what we needed to do. We talked about defensively what are our keys – and offensively what are our assignments, and we just didn’t execute. That’s the takeaway … we just didn’t execute anything.”

Plantz scored on two runs of five yards and another bolt of 43 yards to put the Panthers (2-0) ahead 22-0 in the first half.

A 14-yard sprint by Harris — and an extra-point kick by Logan Diamond — increased the Chesapeake lead to 29-0 at halftime.

The Falcons put together a drive that started at their own 42-yard line with under two minutes to go before the end of the first half.

Minford quarterback Curtis Glenn connected with Jordan Schott for a 14-yard gain, and twice to Colt Donahoe for gains of 15 and eight yards before time expired.

“We come in all week, and we talk about keys to both the offense and the defense,” Michael added. “When we come in here on Monday and watch films and put together our game plan – let’s execute and get the job done and do our job. But the message for this week was ‘do us, let’s do us.’ But that wasn’t ‘us’ out there. I know we’re young and guys are playing that are really young. But that was not us. We did not play our game. We have to execute. I keep using that word, but that’s what it came down to and we didn’t execute. It is what it is.”

Glenn threw for 149 yards on 11 completions, but was picked off three times.

The 6-2 junior added 36 yards on the ground on 12 totes.

Donahoe pulled in four catches for 66 yards, while fellow Falcon receiver Ethan Morrison caught three passes for 36 yards in the loss.

“Curtis Glenn has a little something in him,” Michael said of his quarterback. “He’s a tough kid. He threw the ball well but had those picks and that comes with experience. He has all the tools and has some growing to do, but he’s got the ability and the talent. I was happy with his play because he could have shut down out there — they all could have — but he played hard up until the very last play. I was proud of our effort from the guys but not the execution. But Glenn’s a tough kid.”

Chesapeake kept the momentum going in the third quarter — when Harris found Plantz on a 14-yard scoring strike.

The Falcons (0-2) put together a drive in the third that featured a 17-yard connection from Glenn to Donahoe.

But the eight-play threat ended in an interception at the Chesapeake 38-yard line.

The Panthers put together an 11-play, 62-yard drive that ended with a four-yard scoring run by Kaden Perkins.

“We had a couple of good drives and showed some rhythm,” Michael added. “But we came up short on a couple of those and gave the ball away. We’ve got some things to iron out.”

Minford, which lost its opener at Rock Hill 28-12, returns to the road — and returns to non-league action —on Friday night at Wellston.
