Alma Charlene “Charlie” Miers Mitchell, 79, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born July 26, 1932, in Waldo, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clinton Ray and Varence Lucille Oborn Conklin.

Charlie had a beautiful flower garden, a special talent for decorating, and she couldn’t pass up a good yard sale. She was loved by many.

Charlie was preceded in death June 30, 1976, by her first husband, Paul E. “Mouse” Miers, whom she married May 7, 1954 in Marion, Ohio.

She is survived by her son, Gregory E. Miers of Portsmouth; three daughters, Cindy (Mitch) Keating of Portsmouth, Diana (Dave) Humble of Columbus, and Denise (Teddie) Weeks of Lucasville; a brother, Ralph Conklin of Marion; a sister, Irene Coon of Celina, Ohio; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by siblings, Larry, Cecil and Warren Conklin, and Ellen Troutman.

A Celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth with Elder Ralph L. Clay officiating. Inurnment will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery, Brush Ridge, Ohio, at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St., Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.

Lord, help me always to look to you in any difficult situation, knowing that whatever my need, you will in some way supply it.

“Remember he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.” - Psalm 91:14
