Irene Blevins, 90, of Deltona, Fla., formerly of Wheelersburg, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, Fla.

She was born April 29, 1920, in Portsmouth, to the late James William Busby and Maude Mae Boling Smoot Busby, and was an ordained minister with the Christian Baptist Association. Rev. Blevins was a very articulate evangelist, as well as pastor of various churches in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio for 56 years. Along with her husband, Edward, she was founder of the Highland Bend Christian Baptist Church and co-owner to numerous rental properties in Scioto County. Among her accomplishments, she was always thankful for being the valedictorian of her graduating class. Her love for Jesus Christ and her family was evident in all of her talk and actions until the end of her earthly life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Eldridge and Emily Downey Busby; brothers Robert Stanley Smoot, Irvin Jackson Smoot, Edward Elwood Smoot, Elbert Lee Smoot, Espa Olan Smoot and John William Smoot; and four sisters, Mary Edna Smoot Eldridge, Carrie Elizabeth Busby Compton and Juanita Busby Clay.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 67 years and her three children: Maudynea (Rogers) Cairns of Deltona, Fla.; Lanita Sue (Jack) Creech, of Deltona, Fla.; and Danny (Ramona) Blevins of Wheelersburg; her grandchildren: Timothy Joe (Charla) Stepp of Wheelersburg; Sherry Deanna Stepp Jordan of Quincy, Ky.; Thomas Edward Stepp of Canal Winchester, Ohio; Jason (Jessica) Blevins of Portsmouth; Lori (Pablo) Rocha of Cincinnati; Joshua (Dusty) Blevins of Wheelersburg; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Mike Bender officiating, with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
