Portsmouth Mayor Jane Murray feels positive that McKinley Pool will open next week.

Murray announced Thursday that repairs are being made owing to a leak in the deep end.

“They had to start all over and try to fix the leak. That holding, now they’re painting, and they think that they can fill. Then they have to put the chemicals in, and it has to wait through the process,” Murray said. “But since we know definitively, they’re hoping by next Wednesday (June 23) or Thursday (June 24) now.”

According to Alan Barlow, volunteer coordinator of the pool preparation project, a leak was discovered Thursday morning. Repairs appear to be working and the area is being repainted. It is anticipated that water and chemicals can be added in the next several days. The pool was scheduled to open Saturday.
