Friday night in New Boston the margin was smaller but the result was the same with Symmes Valley defeating the Tigers 71-49.
The Vikings started the game on a 12-2 run and ended the first quarter ahead 25-8.
New Boston got it together in the second quarter, outscoring Symmes Valley 14-12 but the Tigers were unable to get the deficit below 10 points.
"I think we had (the deficit) to 12 points with 40 seconds to go in the second quarter and they got it back to 16 on two offensive put backs and one bad decision," New Boston coach Don Stapleton said. "If you can get it under 10 anything can happen but the rebounding edge was just to great."
Symmes Valley outrebounded the Tigers 55-36 and dominated in the post. Perennial All-SOC player Kris Tibbs led all scorers with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Luke Taylor score 17 points with eight rebounds. Josh Craft also scored 15 points for Symmes Valley.
"It's always nice to win when you're at New Boston," Symmes Valley coach Jerome Fuller said. "It's a tough place, tough place."
New Boston got the deficit to 14 points early in the third quarter but was unable to stop the Vikings' offense. Every player on the Symmes Valley roster got into the game and 10 of the 12 Vikings found their way into the scoring column.
"I've got 12 kids that can play," Fuller said. "Most people don't have that luxury. We're going to need them...Next week we play four games in five days."
While New Boston's defense struggled, the offense was able to establish some momentum. Drew Delotell scored a season-high 16 points and led the Tigers in rebounding with six. Steven Russell scored 11 points in the contest and Tyler Messer scored 10 in the loss.
"We played much better offensively this time against them," Stapleton said. "That was Drew's high game on the year... Except for the first quarter, we just played basketball. If we played four quarters maybe we would have been there. You don't know. We just didn't come out in the first quarter with the right mindset."
Symmes Valley (9-5, 8-3) had been in the hunt for the SOC I title, needing to run the table and hope for three-straight league losses for Eastern. The Eagles failed to comply however, defeating East on Friday to win the title outright.
Symmes Valley faces East tonight while the Tigers travel to Notre Dame.
