Charles M. “Buck” Ross, 79 of Rarden-Hazelbaker Road, Otway, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at the V.A. Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1930, in Scioto County, Ohio, to the late Charlie and Bertha Riley Ross.

He was united in marriage on July 13, 1955, to Geneva Copas Ross who survives. Also surviving are a son, Rick (Carmelia) Ross of Otway; one daughter, Deborah (Lonnie) Miller of Otway; five grandchildren, Crystal Liles, Mike and Chad Miller, and Melissa and Mariah Ross; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Liles, Taylor, Ethan, and Hailey Miller; two brothers, Ollie (Reva) Ross and James Ross, both of Otway; and one sister, Rose (Burlin) Strickland, also of Otway. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Alton, Burton, Harlan, and John Ross; and two sisters, Rouie Spires and Helen Stevenson.

Mr. Ross was retired from the former Waller Brothers Stone Co. with 45 years of service, served as deacon for over 48 years at the Old Hoffer Hill Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Old Hoffer Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Hoffer Hill Church Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No.363. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Botkin Funeral Home in Otway and Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
