Kentucky Senator Robin Webb (D-Grayson) whose district includes Greenup, Lewis, Bracken, Carter, Mason and Robertson counties, has been appointed to serve on a committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of The Council of State Governments (CSG) by Senate President Robert Stivers (R-Manchester). Webb will serve on the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee.

“Being appointed to the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee provides opportunities for me as a legislator to brainstorm with lawmakers from other states on current state government issues,” Webb, who has been involved with drafting the state budget in both the House and the Senate, said. “The organization also offers ample research resources to compare trends and practices among states.”

Stivers said members of the Fiscal Affairs and Government Operations Committee have focused on the myriad of fiscal issues that impact on state budgets and finances.

“Recently, members of the committee have been interested in exploring the experiences of their southern state counterparts in devising strategies in their own state,” Stivers said. “The committee membership includes many of the finance and appropriations chairs from across the south with prominent fiscal players, both legislators and legislative staff, in the different state legislatures.”

Webb serves on the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee. During her tenure in the House, she was vice chair of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee and served on all House Budget subcommittees. Also during her tenure in the House, she helped negotiate the Tobacco Settlement Money Distribution settlement.

“Such committees allow me the opportunity to hear new ideas and provide me with access to information that can help my district, as well as allow me to network with other state lawmakers on issues like education or Medicaid that affect all state governments,” Webb said.
