PRP Press Release

Portsmouth Raceway Park hosted its annual Kids Night Saturday, and a great crowd of both children and adults was in attendance on Father’s Day Weekend to watch over 75 drivers compete in an evening full of racing.

While several young race fans walked away from PRP with brand new bicycles and other door prizes, the racers had to earn their prizes.

In the Giovanni’s Pizza Late Model Division, Wheelersburg’s R.J. Conley posted yet another PRP win on Kids Night, as he has done multiple times in years past. The three-time track champion started on the pole and led every circuit in his Conley Trucking #71C.

Ben Adkins of West Portsmouth applied some pressure late but could never pull up alongside Conley. Adkins ran second the entire race and wound up finishing as the runner-up.

Waverly’s Billy Gullion had an up, down and up again kind of race. The night’s fast qualifier started fifth, dropped a few spots, was sent to the tail for jumping a restart, then fought his way back into the top five before finishing third.

Wheelersburg’s Kevin Wagner had his best PRP finish of the season. He started 10th and battled his way up to fourth. PRP points leader Rod Conley had a great points race. The Wheelersburg native started 15th but marched his way 10 spots up through the field en route to a fifth-place finish.

The race’s biggest mover was Tommy Carlton of Lawrenceburg, Ky. He advanced 11 positions climbing from 18th to seventh.

Todd Robinson claimed his second feature win of the season in the R.W. Rental & Supply Modifieds. The South Point racer held off Jimmy Lennex, Allen Turner, T.J. Harper and Adam Jordan to take the win.

Fayetteville’s Mike Meyers captured his first victory of the season in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Lates. The 37-year-old plumber took the lead on lap 11 of the 15-lap feature after race leader John Melvin got loose off turn two.

Meyers fended off Dennis Little, Evyian Terry, Robbie Lewis and Kenny McCann to earn the checkers.

Frankfort’s Conard Newman grabbed his second feature win of 2013 in the M & M Inflatables Bombers. Newman held off defending track champ Jeremie Bretz to claim the victory. Finishing behind Newman and Bretz were Shannon Stephens, Derek Spencer and Craig Naylor.

PRP will be back in action this Saturday featuring the annual Premier Precast Products Limited Late Model Extravaganza along with Late Models, Modifieds and Bombers. Gates will open at 4 p.m. Racing starts at 7:30.
