After not meeting his own expectations in the opening round, Mitchell McFarland shot par over the final two rounds to finish 21st in the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior tournament at the Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland, Ky.
After the opening 18 holes, McFarland stood at 71st overall in the American Junior Golf Association event. After the second round, McFarland worked his way up the leader board from 71st to 30th.
“(To have a chance to win) My goal every tournament is to play bogey free,” McFarland told the Daily Times after the second round.
For the second and third round, McFarland overcame a few mistakes to jump up the leader board. The Wheelersburg High School standout shot six bogeys but unlike the opening round, he made six birdies to stay the course.
In an interview with the Daily Times after the second round, McFarland acknowledged he was shooting for a final round of 68.
