Nate Reynolds was the Most Valuable Player Saturday as his 4-for-5 day at the plate helped host West claim the 2013 Rocky Nelson Wood Bat Classic.

The Senators claimed a 3-1 win in the semifinal over Meigs thanks to a complete game effort from Brady Knittel, who struck out six and went the distance. He was named the tournament’s top pitcher.

In the championship game, Reynolds hit a three-run home run in the second to aid West in the 16-2 win in five innings over Southern. Wesley Book was also 4-for-4 in the title game.

The Senators host Valley Monday.

Carol Vice Classic

Host Clay finished as the runner-up in the 2013 Carol Vice Classic Saturday to Warren.

In the semifinals, the Panthers defeated Adena 12-6 thanks to a four-RBI day from Sydney Carter, who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Alisha Shepherd was 2-for-3 in the win.

Despite a solo home run by Autumn Griffith in the fifth inning, her fourth of the season, the Panthers could not overcome the Warriors from the SEOAL in a 13-8 final for the title. Marissa Messer was 3-for-3 with three stolen bases for Clay.

The Panthers are on the road Monday at Symmes Valley.
