Letter to the Editor
Our elected officials and military upon entering office take a pledge and solemn oath to uphold and preserve our Constitution as it has been written and tested and tried these past 236 years and to defend the United States of America against its enemies.
We are one of a very few societies in history who have enjoyed two centuries of true liberty and freedom . Where are our elected officials and what are they doing to sustain and preserve our constitutional rights? Why are these men and women who represent us choosing to ignore promises made and kept through the generations? Are these men and women so intimidated for their lives that they are allowing evil people in our government to destroy our liberties and freedom? Or are they themselves so greedy and self-serving that they turn their heads against what is right and usher tight-mouthed into the legislative halls where their predecessors battled to uphold the motives of our founding fathers?
I have come to believe that the enemy we now fight is within our present government. Our troops overseas fight to defend the freedom of others while we here at home are being destroyed by evil and power-hungry people. Have we become so complacent, so comfortable that we have forgotten what obstacles and struggles characterized our first 200 years of freedom?
Our government must not make any changes in our Constitution without due process. Allowing our Congress an exemption from or privilege to any plan or policy that does not also apply to every citizen in the USA is a violation of our constitutional rights. This includes President Obama, his new Health Care Plan, his college funding plan, and actions affecting social security retirement benefits. My concern is that these policy makers are forcing us into a tyrannical state. What else do we call a government who forces us to accept violations of human rights as in the case of mass abortions?
I have always understood that any person guilty of betraying our Constitution with the intent of destroying our country is a traitor. And historically traitors have been punished. How can our representatives and military allow manipulation of our Constitution and suffer no consequence? I fear our democracy is slipping away. Why do democracies fall?
In the words of Alexander Tytier:
“Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.”
We are a courageous and mighty nation. We the people rule; we are a government of the people and by the people! We have enjoyed freedoms other nations can only envy.
But our freedoms and abundance have made us lazy, and we have given too much power to those who seek to bind us by stretching a blanket of privilege and entitlement over us. I fear what will become of us.
