Portsmouth City School Board

The Portsmouth City School Board meeting will be Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the PHS/PJHS Multipurpose Room.

SSU recognized as ‘safe’ by OSHA

Shawnee State University has been recognized as a “safe” campus with zero OSHA recordable loss time from injuries and illnesses in 2012. By national standards SSU is a very safe campus.

The national average incidence rate for institutions the size of Shawnee State would be 28 injuries and/or illnesses per year and SSU had only seven.

The university is approaching one million man hours worked without a loss time accident or injury.

“In recent years we have brought our incidence rate down well below the national average for colleges and universities of our size,” said Joe Van Deusen, associate director, Environment Health & Safety/Facilities. “This has been accomplished by increased tracking and improved training of employees.”

Public forum for educators and parents

The public is invited to attend an open forum for area educators and parents to discuss two new and important policy changes in public education on Tuesday, April 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Eastern High School.

The changes will have a far-reaching impact on our area schools and the children they serve. The forum will consist of a panel of area educators, a representative from the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents. Find out what every parent should know about these issues.

The two topics of discussion are “The Third Grade Reading Guarantee” and “Teacher and Principal Evaluation.”

The forum is sponsored by Shawnee State University and the University of Rio Grande. Eastern High School is located at 1170 Tile Road, Beaver, Ohio. For more information, call 740-351-3451.

Northwest LPDC Committee

The Northwest LPDC Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in NES Conference Room. High School and Middle School will meet at 2:45 p.m. and Elementary will meet after dismissal.
