Two men arrested as the result of a bank robbery have been indicted by a Scioto County grand jury. Todd M. Williams, 33, of Birch Hollow, and Paul E. Charles, Jr., 39, of 12th Street, Portsmouth are charged with robbery, kidnapping and abduction in the March 14, 2013, robbery of US Bank in Wheelersburg.
Quick work by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of the two men just a couple of days after the robbery.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said detectives worked on several leads which resulted in Charles being detained with the assistance of Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Officers on March 15 on a probation violation from an apartment on Seventh Street in Portsmouth. It was later determined that Charles was the driver during the bank robbery that occurred the day before.
Detectives had obtained suspect information of the bank robber along with a suspect vehicle, which resulted in a search of several locations to include a rental house located on Washington Boulevard in West Portsmouth. On March 17, detectives observed the suspect’s vehicle parked in a driveway located at 183 Birch Hollow in Portsmouth. Detectives along with deputies were able to surround the house and locate and detain Williams without incident.
“The kidnapping and abduction charges involved the bank tellers,” Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said. “They were ordered to get down on the ground during the robbery. When I saw he (Williams) had ordered them to the ground, I sought additional charges for that.”
