I debated as to whether I should have written this as a letter to the editor instead of a column, because it deals with my private life, but then decided you wouldn’t mind either way.

Last Friday I was privileged to preach to a room full of people from all walks of life, all denominations, and some from no denomination at all, like me. It was the closing of a week of great spiritual awakening, known annually as the Holy Week Luncheons, held at First Christian Church sponsored by the Scioto County Ministerial Association.

With some encouragement by my colleague, Portia Williams, and with an invitation by my longtime friend David Smith, I wrote - changed my sermon - wrote - changed my sermon - then, on Friday morning settled on a version I would go with. I wanted it to be special because these were very special people.

Another friend, Jason Coriell, President of the Scioto County Ministerial Association, like all the other ministers, made me feel very welcome. I was also pleased to share the podium with the beautiful voice that belonged to Barbara Demandante, who sang - ‘Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” When she was done, I looked at my notes and suddenly got a feeling of inadequacy.

“How do you follow that?” I asked the crowd.

There are so many people to thank for making me feel so welcome. All were encouraging and complimentary afterwards. Going in, I was pleased to receive encouragement from Pastor David Malone, who doubled as accompanist much of the week.

To top it all off, I was pleased to be encouraged by people from my own church, New Life Family Worship Center. Pastor Mike Gifford, Bryan and Mary Conley, Brittany Gray, and Leah Hill. Nothing makes you feel more comfortable than family, and this is my church family. As long as we have worked together, I have always been able to count on Mike Gifford for support, and the same goes for all of those I teach in my class each week. I am truly blessed.

All of the speakers last week, Gary Heimbach; Tom Charles; Andrea Young and Mark Ferreira, did an outstanding job. The music was wonderful, and the food extraordinary.

I really appreciated the opportunity to be a part of it, and want to thank all of those involved in the Scioto County Ministerial Association for allowing me to share the gospel with all of them. A special thanks to Dick Schisler for keeping me relaxed with really good conversation. It was a pleasure to share lunch with him each day. I also appreciate the deep conversation with Pastor Stanley Webster. I always enjoy talking about the Word.

It was a good week with good fellowship, good food, and inspiring messages. Truth is - nothing is better than that.
