Mary Alice Bendolph, 82
Mary Alice Bendolph, 82, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, Mar. 18, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Talladega, Ala. on Jan 21, 1931, a daughter of the late Jack and Susan Grayson Woods. Mary Alice was a licensed cosmetologist, having graduated from the P.O.R.O. School of Cosmetology in Columbus, a member of the Christ Temple Apostolic Church where she taught Sunday School, was the Church Secretary for many years and was a member of the Missionary Board of the Kentucky, Tennessee State Council of the P.A. and W. Mary Alice was also a 1948 graduate of PHS.
Also preceding her in death on Dec. 17, 1999, was her husband, Andrew Bendolph, whom she married in Portsmouth on Dec. 24, 1958. Surviving her are three sons; Frederick J. Bendolph of Porsmouth, Jack (Nicole) Bendolph of Columbus, Marcus W. (Yolanda) Bendolph of Portsmouth; five daughters, Landa (Dee) Gamble of Atlanta, Ga., Sue Ellen Lewis of Portsmouth, Marjorie Nelson of Portsmouth, Mary Carter of Gahanna, Andrea “Angel” Taylor of Portsmouth, one brother, Ben Davis of Portsmouth; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Davis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Christ Temple Apostolic Church with Elder Marcus Bendolph officiating with interment following at the Scioto Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
