A two-vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and Chevrolet Cavalier, occurred at the intersection of Ninth and Waller Streets on Friday at approximately 7:55 p.m.
Sgt. Rob Davis of the Portsmouth Police Department was the officer called to the scene of the accident. According to Davis, the truck was travelling east through the intersection of Ninth Street and Waller Streets.
The Chevrolet Cavalier was travelling north bound on Waller Street.
Davis said there was a witness also travelling east behind the truck that communicated their observation of the crash.
“It was confirmed by the witness that the Chevrolet did, in fact, fail to stop at the red traffic light, which struck the red pick up truck in the right passenger side,” Davis said.
Davis said the pickup truck made an usual flip during the course of the accident.
“He actually made a two-point flip, which is kind of usual, but because the truck was a higher level of gravity, all of the weight is at the front of the truck,” Davis said.
Davis said the weight shifted, causing the truck to flip, leaving the truck facing north bound after it landed.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 65-year-old Kay Lowe of South Shore, Ky., was cited for failure to obey the traffic signal device at a red light.
The driver of the pickup truck was 24-year-old Gonalo Glazalo of Portsmouth was cited for no operator’s license.
The owner of the truck, Shayla Jones of Portsmouth, was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive the vehicle.
Davis said both parties refused medical treatment, and the accident is still under investigation by the Portsmouth Police Department.
