The Scioto County Ministerial Association will host the 26th annual Holy Week Luncheons March 25 -29. The luncheons will be held at First Christian Church, located at Third and Gay Streets in Portsmouth beginning at noon daily. This year’s theme is “Behold the Lamb.”

SCMA Officers for 2013 are President Jason Coriell, a Chaplain of SOMC Hospice and member of Sunshine Church of Christ; Vice President David Smith, Pastor of Evangel Temple Assembly of God and Secretary/Treasurer Mark Ferreira, Commanding Officer of Salvation Army.

Coriell said the luncheons are always a great time for the community to come together.

“The lunch time meetings during the Holy Week provide an opportunity to visit with local believers while being stimulated by music and devotions that focus our hearts and minds on the sacrificial ministry of Christ,” Coriell said.

Coriell said it provides a wonderful method to spiritually prepare for Easter Sunday.

“I, personally look forward to hearing the message shared by each day’s speaker. One can attend a single service, but I have always appreciated the spiritual synergy and accrued meaning that is available to those who experience the full week,” he said.

As is the custom, there will be singing of hymns and brief praise and worship lead by a different worship leader each day.

The featured speakers scheduled for the Holy Week Luncheons include:

  • Monday - Gary Heimbach, Pastor of Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union
  • Tuesday - Tom Charles, Associate Pastor of Cornerstone United Methodist Church
  • Wednesday - Andrea Young, Minister at Pleasant Green Baptist Church
  • Thursday - Mark Ferreira, Commanding Officer of Salvation Army
  • Friday - Frank Lewis, Minister at New Life Family Worship Center

The food provided for the luncheons is a collaborative effort between First Christian Church, where the luncheons take place, and other churches in the local community. The luncheons are free and open to the public.
