Former U.S. Rep. John Kasich, of Ohio, will be the speaker for this year's Lincoln Day Dinner on Monday, April 6, sponsored by the Scioto County Republican Central Committee. The dinner will be held at the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center on the campus of Shawnee State University. Kay Reynolds, chair of the event and a member of the Central Committee said the dinner was scheduled late this year in order to host Kasich. We wanted to be able to hear Mr. Kasich and his message for Ohio first hand, Reynolds said. So we worked through his schedule and ours to make this happen. Reynolds said Kasich was named by Newsweek Magazine as one of its 100 people for the 21st Century. A nine-term congressman, Kasich was elected to his first term at the age of 26. Reynolds said Kasich, now a business leader, a FOX News personality, author and speaker, is a proponent of limited government. This is an important message for this time, Rodney Barnett, vice-chairman of the Scioto County Republican Party said. Kasich was instrumental in the passage of the first balanced federal budget during his time in Washington. This is important to consider as we move forward as a state and a nation in these troubled times. Reynolds said a social period will be observed beginning at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and available through any member of the Scioto County Republican Central Committee, or by calling (740) 353-7469, (740) 821-2892 OR (740) 574-8896.
