The month of February celebrates love and Black History Month. Both topics touch the heart in so many ways. What do they have in common? Let me share a few ways of how they impact our lives.

Love brings much energy and prompts you to want to dedicate your life to that special person or family member. Love urges you to play an important part in making their world a better place in which to live. In other words, you are giving them a part of you through being a living example of how to encourage, how to sacrifice, how to accept the unpleasant events as well as the pleasant ones. Through your living you show them that you do not always like the ways of others; however, you continue to love that person because you know and see the good or potential in them. If for some reason you are unable to see the good at the moment; you have grown wise enough to realize ( through your life experiences) that their being in your life is a challenge to see if you are ready to move to the next level. Keeping this is mind, you develop patience to move carefully ahead in spite of the disappointment, pain, and loneliness.

Your strength and faith comes from the fact that love never ends for you and the warm true memories that created your love can never be taken from your mind, heart, or soul.

In concluding, Love and Black History were born out of memories, both pleasant and unpleasant. They both come from those before us who were dedicated to giving us a better way of life by giving us a part of them. Their belief that love exists and you must give it to find it; their acknowledgement that everyone in your path is there for a reason, and their final realization that sacrifices, patience, and long suffering are pressures that mold you into a shining star (for all to see, love, and admire from both near and far) is what establishes records and memories to last through the times.

I have been privileged to sit and listen to stories that involve Love and Black History. They certainly go hand in hand.

I challenge you today to take a moment to learn from a loved one and discover your history. Next, its your turn to take action and make history so a loved one can pass it on!
