Area boys teams find out tourney fates

A week after area girls coaches met in Jackson to determine the brackets for this year’s tournament, their boys counterparts did the same thing Sunday afternoon.


Locally, Ironton has a No. 1 seed in Division III while Eastern and Notre Dame have top spots in Division IV. Two seeds belong to Oak Hill and Piketon and Piketon in Division III as well as South Webster and Symmes Valley.


Tournament action starts Feb. 18 when No. 9 Wheelersburg and No. 8 Portsmouth battle in Jackson. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m. with the winner moving on to the Feb. 22 championship against the previously-mentioned Fighting Tigers. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.


A night after the Pirates and Trojans do battle, action heats up with games in all three divisions taking place. In Division II, No. 9 Waverly and No. 8 Circleville play in a 6:15 p.m. tilt at Chillicothe Southeastern with the winner advancing four days later to play No. 1 Miami Trace.


In Division III No. 6 West takes on No. 11 Rock Hill at Jackson for the right to face No. 3 Valley while No. 11 Northwest faces No. 6. Lynchburg-Clay in Waverly with No. 3 Peebles. Both Tuesday games have 8 p.m. starts.


Also during Tuesday’s action, Division IV action at Valley starts with a 6:15 tip between No. 9 and No. 8 Clay as the Titans lay in wait for the Feb. 27 championship. Following the Indians and Panthers, No. 10 New Boston faces No. 7 Manchester with a trip to the Feb. 27 title game against the Jeeps at stake.


Following the Ironton game Feb. 22 will be a sectional final between No. 5 Minford and No. 4 Chesapeake. Lastly, the Redstreaks will take on the winner of the No. 10 Adena-No. 7 Westfall contest Feb. 23 at Waverly.


The remaining Division IV games include the Eagles taking on the winner of the No. 9 South Gallia-No. 8 Ironton St. Joseph game Feb. 27 at Meigs, No. 6 Green and No. 3 East will play Feb. 26 at Valley for a trip to Ohio University’s Convocation Center and the Vikings play Feb. 27 at Meigs against No. 7 Waterford.
