Minford claims New Boston tournament

A month after it was originally scheduled, the Minford girls claimed the 2012-2013 New Boston Holiday Tournament with a 92-33 win over Ashland (Ky.) Rose Hill Christian.


With 10 players cracking the scoring column, Kylie Berry led the Falcons with 18 points. Kelsey Conkey, Brooklyn Yeley and Abby Fuhrmann each had 14 and Rachel Parker added 11 in the win.


Minford will welcome Alexander Monday.

Ashlee Lawhorn had 17 points while Kalen Jenkins recorded a double-double as visiting Piketon defeated Chillicothe 45-33 in SVC play.

Jenkins finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Aleah Pelphrey grabbed 12 rebounds. The Redstreaks travel to Unioto Thursday.

Host Chillicothe won the final meeting against Portsmouth as members of the SEOAL as the Cavaliers won 61-45 Saturday night.

Peighton Williams led the Trojans with 28 points to lead all scorers. Jada Jenkins added 11. Portsmouth hosts West Union Monday.

Valley had no issues with an extra day off as the Indians cruised to a 67-44 nonconference home win over North Adams.


Hayden Dunn led Valley with 18 points, Jordan West had 14 points and eight rebounds while Will Howard chipped in with 10 and 10. The Indians travel to West Tuesday.

A day after it was originally scheduled, Peebles traveled to Lynchburg-Clay and left with a 61-52 SHL win.

Trent Arey had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Indians. Beau Justice (18 points) and Mason Johnson (11) each chipped in for the victory.

Peebles travels Friday to Whiteoak.
