SSU hires Patti as VRCFA Director

Shawnee State University exclusively informed the Daily Times Tuesday evening that Joseph Patti was hired as the new director of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
In July, former director Carl Daehler stepped down to accept a position on the faculty at SSU teaching in the university’s music department.
Also in July, SSU President Dr. Rita Rice Morris named Dr. Tim Scheurer, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as the interim director of the VRCFA during the school’s search for a permanent director.
Prior to being hired by SSU, Patti worked as the Theatre Manager at the University of Hawaii-Leeward Community College Theatre. Previous work experience includes Events and Festival Coordinator for the Appeal Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer, N.J. and Business Manager/Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Theater at the University of Central Florida among others. Patti has a Master’s of Fine Art in Theatre Management from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in English, certificate in Theatre Arts from Siena Collage, in Loudonville, N.Y.
Patti was one of three finalists for the job. As a part of the interview process, he and the other candidates were brought on campus for an interview.
“I’m looking forward to joining Shawnee State University and to working with the SOPAA (Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association) Board,” Patti said in a released statement. “During my visit to campus I was extremely impressed with the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts facility, the students, staff, faculty, and the community — and their commitment to the arts. I’m looking forward to being a part of helping people discover – or rediscover - what makes the center unique.”
Patti will assume the roll of as director of the VRCFA on May 6, 2013.
“We are pleased that Joe will be joining us this spring,” said Dr. Rita Rice Morris, SSU President, in a released statement. “He has worked with institutions like ours and has experience in building strong relationships with the community. I am particularly looking forward to working with him to develop his ideas for integrating activities at the Vern Riffe Center with campus life and in continuing to build upon the strong relationship that we share with SOPAA and its members.”
