Velma White, 93
Velma Marie White, 93, of Columbus, formerly of McDermott, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
She was born June 29, 1919, in McDermott, a daughter of the late Edgar and Cora Walker Gardner.
She was the former owner and operator of White’s Grocery in McDermott, a member of the Tri Village Lions Branch, and a 1936 McDermott High School graduate.
She is survived by three daughters Carolyn (Robert) Yates of Columbus, Judy Tackett of Columbus, Deborah White of N.C.; two sons David (Cheryl) White of Grove City and Doug (Claudia) White of Gahanna; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one brother Bob (Ann) Gardner of Rarden.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Irvin White, 1980; one granddaughter Rachel White; two sisters, Helen Francea and Verna Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2012, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Larry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Rushtown Cemetery. Friends may call 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held in Columbus at a later date.
