Shawnee State will formally induct its Hall of Fame Class of 2013 on Friday, January 18 at 6 p.m. inside the University Center Sodexo Ballroom. Admission into the Hall of Fame Banquet will be $20 for the general public. Those tickets can be purchased online through the link above.

The 2013 Hall of Fame Class is made up of five members – Adam Davenport, Dan Grummitt, Becky Holden Elkins, Sarah Downing (Koehler) and John Koustomer. You can read about each of their accomplishments through Shawnee State’s press release which is linked here.

The Hall of Fame Banquet will help to kick off Shawnee State’s Annual Homecoming Weekend. The weekend will also continue that Saturday with a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader that will start with the women at 2 p.m. The men will follow at approximately 4:30 p.m.

SSU Women’s Basketball Jumps to No. 13 in NAIA Poll

Since that last NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll release, women’s basketball has run off six straight victories starting with the Shawnee State Tournament and continuing up until this past weekend where they beat both Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville.

The Coaches seemed to take notice of the Bears impressive play and have moved them up two spots to No. 13 in the latest poll, receiving a total of 173 votes.

The Bears’ six-game winning streak is the second straight stretch this season where they have won six straight. They also started the 2012-13 campaign with six straight wins. Two the Bears’ victories during this winning streak have come against teams ranked in the top 25. They beat then-No. 22 Benedictine (88-74) in Daytona Beach, Fla. and No. 10 Campbellsville this past Saturday (91-77). SSU also beat a Robert Morris squad that was receiving votes during this winning stretch.

SSU is currently 14-3 on the season, including a 5-2 mark in the Mid-South Conference which has them in third place, just one game behind first-place Campbellsville. They will look to continue their winning streak on the road today at St. Catharine in a 6 p.m. start. They will also battle Georgetown this weekend beginning at 2 p.m.

Women’s basketball is currently the third-highest ranked team amongst its Mid-South foes. No. 7 Cumberland and No. 10 Campbellsville both held their positions in the third poll of the year. Georgetown slid down two spots to No. 23 while both St. Catharine and Cumberlands were receiving votes in the latest release.

The next NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be released next Tuesday, Jan. 15.
