A recent confiscation of crack cocaine, heroin, guns and cash, has resulted in a multiple-count indictment and arrest of a Portsmouth man.

Manuel Lofton, also known as “Man,” 33, of 1305 Mound Street, faces 14 counts including multiple counts of trafficking in crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, having a weapon under disability and possession of criminal tools.

Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware and Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said on Friday, at approximately 12 p.m., members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, which consists of Narcotics Detectives from the Portsmouth Police Department, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation served a 14-count indictment warrant to arrest on Lofton.

The Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Department assisted detectives in locating and arresting Lofton. The indictment warrant was the result of a 2-month drug trafficking investigation into the suspected trafficking of crack cocaine and heroin by Lofton.

On Sept. 16, 2012, during a search of Lofton’s residence detectives found 6.2 grams of cocaine. Detectives also found a loaded Taurus .410 caliber handgun, a loaded 22-caliber handgun, two sets of digital scales and $4,322.

Ware and Donini thanked the public for their assistance and said anyone wishing to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force can contact the Portsmouth Police Department drug line at 740-354-DRUG (3784), or the Sheriff’s Office drug line at 740-351-1094, or they may email drugs@sciotocountysheriff.com. All information will be kept confidential and anonymous.
